Felting

Optical tuning for older Infinity speakers (RS-3(a/b), RS-4, RS-5…)

Owners of older Infinintyboxes are already familiar with this. The front and rear panels have been roughly painted with a dark brown-red tinted paint. Over the years, this color has become unattractive on many boxes and at some point you get tired of it. In the case of the RS3A/B, an aging foam panel is glued around the midrange and tweeter, which also becomes unsightly in most cases due to the fact that decay does its work here – similar to the surrounds. This foam panel should probably provide a certain tuning of the speaker through its damping effect. However, when the foam disintegrates, there is nothing left of the cushioning.

With the re-felting of your classic Infinity, you get a loudspeaker that visually matches all the speakers on offer and, thanks to the elegant wood finish, can stand higher in your personal favor. If you want to restore your speakers with new surrounds anyway, we recommend that you also have them optically tuned with felt at the same time. It’s worth it and your living room will thank you for it 🙂

The recommended felt thickness is 2 mm. The felt is ordered to the millimeter and comes from a Swiss supplier and is very robust and easy to clean.
